March 8th is celebrated internationally as Women’s Day, and even on this day, the women farmers of Amaravati have not been able to escape the wrath of the Andhra Pradesh Police department.
Women Farmers of Amaravati were handled pretty badly by the Police department, with several women being dragged by their hair. All of this started when these women farmers went to Prakasam Barrage, in order to visit the Durga temple, and they were obstructed by the police, despite their peaceful protest.
The farmers of Amaravati have been fighting their battle for over 14 months now, and women have been treated poorly since the very beginning. Following this ill-treatment towards women farmers, farmers from several districts have decided to protest in opposition to the deed and decided to come to Amaravati. However, iron fences have been set up between districts, in order to restrict their movement.
On the Seed Access Road, people have stood catching “Save Amaravati” placards. Many people have condemned the way women are being treated in Amaravati, and in Andhra Pradesh. The government is being called out for being hypocritical towards pledging safety for women, but not actually making any efforts towards protecting people.
