Recently, the Andhra Pradesh state government issued orders requiring the Advocate General (AG) to approve policy decisions and draft welfare schemes to be taken by the state government.
Chief Secretary (CS) Adityanath Das said in the order that the draft policy papers should be sent to the AG for consideration before issuing them. It is now suggested that all government departments follow the new guidelines.
“The policy decisions and schemes which are taken by the state government are subject to judicial review. Welfare schemes and policies designed for public welfare are facing challenges in the courts.
In order to prevent this, a preliminary opinion has to be taken from the Advocate General’s Office.” the CS orders said.
