The situation in Afghanistan continues to worsen every day after the Taliban took over the country. In order to save their lives from insurgents, thousands of Afghans are desperately trying to leave the country and start a new life in any part of the world. Thousands are waiting at the airport fighting a hopeless battle to flee out of the country.
Intending to stop the crowd from fleeing the country, the Taliban have cut off food and drinking water for the people who had been waiting for days outside the airport. At a time like this, some traders have increased the prices of essential commodities in a bid to cash in on the helplessness of the people.
According to a Reuters video, an Afghan national waiting outside the airport said water bottles available outside the airport are being sold for $40 (almost Rs 3000). “One bottle of water is being sold for $40 and a plate of rice for $100, and not Afghani (currency) but dollars. That is out of reach for common people,” he said.
The Taliban have asked the United States and other Western nations to complete the evacuation by August 31. Approaching the imposed deadline, there is a more congested atmosphere at the airport.
