Acharya & Virata Parvam in trouble after Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh

The Maoist ambush that killed 22 CRPF jawans in Chhattisgarh has shaken the entire country. While the citizens are condoling the deaths of jawans, the Hyderabad based organization Anti Terrorism Forum has taken a crucial decision to fight against the films that allegedly portrays Maoists as heroes.

We know two big-ticket films from Tollywood – one starring Chiranjeevi and the other having Rana Daggubati as the lead – are based on the Maoist’s backdrop, where the big stars will be seen as Maoists.

Now, the Anti-Terrorism Forum met Censor Board asking to not issue Censor clearance for movies tender to Maoists and Naxalism ideologies. This is not the first time that these kinds of demands came from a few groups of public to ban films that spreads positivity about Naxalism ideologies.

In this context, it remains to be seen what action will CBFC takes against Virata Parvam and Acharya, which are gearing up to hit the screens on 30 April and May 13, respectively.

Virata Parvam is based on the Naxal movement of the nineties in united Andhra, while Chiranjeevi’s Acharya is a story of a Maoist turned social reformer.
