A gang looted cellphones worth Rs 6.39 crore on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway-75. A container truck transporting the cellphones was intercepted on the highway at midnight on Thursday near Devarayasamudra, under Mulbagal police limits of Kolar district in Karnataka. As per reports, the mobile phones belong to the Chinese mobile company Redmi. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
According to the Mulabagilu police report, a container lorry (No. KA01AP6824) belonging to PG Transport left with a load of cell phones from Chennai to Bangalore on Thursday evening. The lorry was intercepted by 8 robbers who chased it in a car as it was approaching Devarayasamudra village after midnight.
The driver of the truck was tied up with ropes and left in a deserted area with the vehicle. Cellphones were taken to another lorry at Neralahalli village. Early in the morning, the driver untied himself and lodged a complaint with the police.
Central Zone IG Chandrasekhar, Kolar SP Kishore Babu, DSP Gopal Nayak and Mulbagal SI Pradeep Singh inspected the spot. A team led by DSP Gopal Nayak was formed to search for the gang, who looted the lorry.
