The City of Hyderabad has bagged not just one, but two prestigious international awards, turning out to be the only Indian city to do so. Hyderabad has bagged the ‘World Green City Award 2022’, beating the likes of Paris, Bogota, Mexico City, Montreal and Fortaleza. The city also won the ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ at the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH) 2022 held in Jeju, South Korea.
In fact, Hyderabad turned out to be the only Indian city to be even considered for the World Green City 2022 award, which is the best in all six categories. The announcement of the winners of all six categories took place at a dedicated awards ceremony, which took place at the IUCN Leaders Forum in Jeju.
Speaking at the event, Tim Briercliffe, the Secretary General of AIPH said that they are proud of what Hyderbad has achieved so far, with its inspiring urban greening work, and said that he wishes that Hyderabad achieves more such achievements with this global recognition. He added that the innovation, ambition, and inspiring action demonstrated in the City’s entry leaves a powerful legacy for other cities from around the world to aspire to.
