The government of India has come down heavily on WhatsApp as a part of their extended plan to trace out the emergence of fake news that is being carried out through the messaging platform.
The Government of India filed a case against WhatsApp, demanding the access to the details of the individual/company that first starts the negative news on WhatsApp. The idea is to be able to track the culprits behind the start of this fake propaganda on the messaging platform that has been in discussion for a long time.
However, WhatsApp is least happy about this and they have threatened to even shut their services in India if the government insists on having access to the said information. The messaging platform says this is a breach of privacy and they certainly can’t permit the same.
This means that WhatsApp might eventually shut shop in India if the government insists on the access to information.
