The Bharatiya Janata Party has every political member of the country confused with its latest Rajya Sabha nominations from the South. The central BJP leadership has nominated people like writer Vijayendra Prasad and music maestro Ilayaraja, apart from athlete PT Usha and social worker Veerendra Hegde, from the various South Indian states.
One would naturally think that this would put the BJP in a better position in the SOuth, because of this move. However, fact remains that Rajya Sabha nominations can translate into very little political advantage for any party, as these members do not directly represent the people in any state. Apart from that, these nominations do not also mean that the entire family of the person nominated, would join the ruling party.
Given that there’s no clear evidence of any political advantage for the BJP from its Rajya Sabha nominations this year, everyone is confused regarding the BJP’s strategy in the South, and are even wondering if this is even part of any strategy. Fact remains that the BJP has been wanting to get into the South for a long time, as the party doesn’t have much support in the south. But it now remains to be seen if this move is a part of any strategy or not.
