British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Thursday announced his resignation as Conservative Party leader. However, he will continue as in-charge until a new prime minister is elected.
This situation arose when his ministers and officials lost confidence in Boris’ leadership. While two ministers resigned on Tuesday demanding Johnson’s resignation, 15 more ministers resigned on Wednesday. So far, more than 40 ministers have stepped down from their posts.
Boris Johnson has recently been embroiled in many controversies. He has been criticized across the country for throwing a party at the official residence during the Covid-19 pandemic. He blamed the herd instinct of his party as he delivered his resignation speech on the doorstep of 10 Downing Street.
“I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world,” Johnson said in his speech.
