Indian Navy on Wednesday recovered 22 dead bodies from the barge P305 that went adrift in Cyclone Tauktae fury. More than 60 people are still missing while at least 180 people have been rescued.
Barge P305, which was employed by ONGC in valid work, sank around 7 pm on Monday with 273 crew members on board. All of them were forced to jump into the rough water of the Arabian Sea as the ship sank.
After receiving the information, the Navy had begun the search operation and carried out relief operations. The ship sank 35 nautical miles off the coast. Efforts to identify and rescue the rest are going on.
The subsequent rough weather made it difficult to conduct search and rescue operations. As per reports, Naval warship INS Kochi reported in Mumbai on Wednesday with 125 crew members saved from the barge. The Navy and coast guard have also rescued 137 crew members of GAL Constructor, another ship that ran aground north off Mumbai.
