YSRCP takes home MPTC, ZPTC elections

The YSRCP bagged most of the votes in the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) elections, according to the counting that took place till Sunday evening. By the results that were announced by the SEC till 6:30 PM, YSRCP won 340 out of 515 ZPTCs, the elections for which were held in April this year.
The TDP won just three seats, while the CPI-M and independent candidates won a seat each. Out of a total of 659 ZPTCs, 126 seats were elected unanimously, while 11 candidates expired since March 2020, and the SEC withheld the results for 8 ZPTCs for various reasons. The counting has been completed in 3 out of 13 districts, and the YSRCP made a clean sweet in all the three districts, including Chittoor, the home district of Chandrababu Naidu.
In Chittoor, the YSRCP won all the 33 seats in which it contested, all 34 seats in Nellore and 36 seats in Kurnool. In Kuppam, the YSRCP won all 4 ZPTCs and 98% MPTCs, and even won in Naravari Palli. The majority of the MPTC seats have been claimed by the YSRCP. Out of 10,047 seats, the election was unanimous on 2,371 seats, and the election was held for 7,219 seats. A total of 81 candidates expired since March 2020 while the SEC withheld results of 355 seats.
Results declared till 6.30 PM show that the YSRCP won 5,135 seats while the TDP won 675 seats. Jana Sena bagged 85 seats while the BJP won 23 seats. The CPI-M won 13 seats, the CPI 8, the Congress 4 and others 131. These elections were held on April 8th, and the SEC officials said that the continuation of the rest of the votes could go on till midnight.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy said that the victory in the ZPTC and MPTC polls is a sign of good governance welfare-oriented ruling of the YSRCP, and added that the Chief Minister has gained people’s trust by fulfilling election promises. The YSRCP also claimed that this landslide victory shows that even after two and a half years of rule, the influence of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy remains unchanged.
