In a tragic incident, Ritika Phogat, the cousin of top Indian wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday (March 17).
According to reports, Ritika took her own life by hanging herself after she lost a wrestling tournament in Bharatpur on Wednesday. She was 17. The young talent ended her life after not being able to bear the failure. The post mortem was carried out in Civil Hospital in Dadri.
Ritika had trained under Dronacharya Awardee Mahabir Singh Phogat, who was also present at the tournament final at Bharatpur. She was undergoing her training at Mahabir Phogat Sports Academy.
Meanwhile, the Haryana Police have begun their investigation into the case. Charkhi Dadri District Superintendent of Police Ram Singh Bishnoi said that loss in the tournament could be the reason for her alleged suicide.
