In what could be considered as a surprising development, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee is trailing against BJP candidate Suvendhu Adhikari in Nandigram constituency.
Suvendhu is holding a decisive lead of over 8000 votes after two rounds of counting.
Interestingly enough, Suvendhu was once a close associate of Mamata and he left TMC last December. He is now causing a big headache to Mamata in the assembly elections.
However, Mamata’s TMC is leading in majority constituencies. The party is in front in 177 out of the total 294 constituencies while BJP is leading in 87 constituencies, as per the Election Commission of India’s website.
