In view of the deadly second wave of Covid-19, West Bengal on Saturday announced more restrictions from May 16 for the next 15 days. The state on Friday recorded its highest single-day spike of 20,846 fresh infections, taking the total tally to 10,94,802. The death toll in the state has also climbed to 12,993 after 136 more people died to COVID-19.
Earlier on April 30, the state had imposed a partial lockdown in the state.
Looking to control the spread of coronavirus, the state has ordered to shut down all offices and educational institutions.
Even transport services, including Kolkata Metro, will come to a halt. Only emergency services will be allowed. However, the groceries and shops selling essential items will stay open between 7 am to 10 am.
Interestingly, sweetmeat vendors may operate between 10 am and 5 pm. Likewise, petrol pumps will remain open and so will banks, although only between 10 am to 2 pm.
