With an ensemble cast that includes Samuthirakani, Anasuya, Dhanraj, Rahul Ramakrishna and Meera Jasmine, director Siva Prasad Yanala came up with the film Vimanam, which has been released today. Let us see how the film has turned out to be.

Story:

Veerayya is a physically handicapped man who runs a public toilet. He has a son named Raju, who is the world to him. Raju’s life’s ambition is to once travel in an aeroplane. Everything seems to be fine for the father and son until the father gets to know heartbreaking news about his son. What is that heartbreaking news and how do the other characters fit into the story of this father and son forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Samuthirakani in the role of a handicapped father whose entire world revolves around his son and giving his son whatever he wishes for, is good. He brings out all the emotions necessary for his character in the right way. He is good in his role, and for the first time, the Telugu audiences get to see him in a positive character. This shows his versatility as an actor.

Master Dhruvan, in the role of Raju, the son of Veerayya, is good in his role. The scenes between him and Samuthirakani are a treat to watch and one of the positives of the film.

Anasuya plays a prostitute in the film and looks the part very well. Apart from that, the actress is good in emotional scenes as well.

The rest of the supporting cast, including Meera Jasmine, Dhanraj, and Rahul Ramakrishna are good, and do what they need to do.

Off-Screen Talents:

The director wanted to tell a simple story of a father and a son, and about the story of a father trying to fulfill his son’s wish no matter what, especially in desperate times. Apart from a major reveal, there’s another twist towards the end of the film, which comes as a surprise. While all is good, the major drawback of this film is that it lingers a bit too long in scenes where it shouldn’t, and the pacing is too, very slow. It feels as if the story doesn’t move forward at all sometimes. Moreover, the climax is very much understood and clear by the interval itself. This makes the film very predictable and routine.

The music and background music of the film are fine and go well with the scenes, but they do not particularly stand out.

The production design of the film is good, and so is the cinematography. The editing could have been much crisper.

Plus Points:

  • Actors performances
  • Some emotional scenes

Minus Points:

  • Predictable story
  • Slow pacing
  • Routine screenplay

Verdict: On the whole, Vimanam is a highly predictable film with some good emotional scenes. It is a heart-touching story but takes too long to make its point. Watch it if you have no other plans this weekend.
