Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s letter to the Chief Justice of India has become quite the controversial issue all over the country. The contents of his letter have upset every single member of the judicial family. As a result, many petitions were filed against Jagan in this regard.
Supreme Court lawyer Aswini Kumar Upadhyaya had written a letter to Attorney General of India KK Venugopal about the issue, a few days ago, requesting the AG to give his consent for Contempt of Court proceeding against Jagan. However, the AG said that he is not in the position to do so since the CJI is already aware of the contents of the letter.
Ashwini Kumar then wrote a second letter to the AG, once again requesting the AG’s consent for Contempt of Court proceedings against the fact that the contents of the letter were made public by Jagan’s government. In his reply to this second letter, the AG said that he still couldn’t give his consent for a Contempt of Court proceeding against Jagan, since there is no ban on making the contents of the letter public.
However, even the AG had agreed to the fact that the contents of the letter were highly objectionable and contumacious. In his letter to the CJI, Jagan criticised the way Sitting Justice of the Supreme Court, NV Ramana was interfering with the High Court orders. Jagan also criticised the AP High Court for being biased towards the TDP, and Chandrababu Naidu.
