Uttarakhand‘s Chamoli district is currently at the center of a massive commodity and tragedy, following the melting of a glacier in the Dhauli Ganga valley in the Joshimath areaarea, and the subsequent flooding of the Dhauliganga river.
The neighbouring villages have been asked to evacuate the place, as the villages would be washed away, considering the pressure of the flood is very high. The flood managed to break a dam of the Tapovan Power Project, and several labourers working at the Rishi Ganga hydroelectric power project were reported missing as well.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat rushed to the area, and has been directing the Police and disaster management departments to take care of the situation at hand.
The flow of the Bhagirathi River has been stopped to avoid any further damage, and the flow of Alaknanda, Srinagar Dam and Rishikesh Dam have also been stopped as precautionary measures.
Many houses on the bank of the Dhauliganga river, near Reni village, have been flooded already. Although Rishikesh and Haridwar may not be affected because of the flood, the towns have been put on high alert. National Disaster Response Force, SDRF and Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary have also been put on the highest alert, and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has put the entire state on high alert as well.
