Uttarakhand CM resigns to avoid Constitutional crisis

In the latest development in Uttarakhand politics, the Chief Minister of the state Tirath Singh Rawat has submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya on Friday late night.

He resigned four months after taking the charge from former CM Trivendra Rawat. He had taken an oath as the Chief Minister on March 10 and needed to win an assembly seat by September 10. But with the Election Commission of India not feasible to conduct a by poll in the state, it left Rawat with no other option but to resign.

As per reports, the state BJP legislature party will meet today to name its new leader, who will be sworn in as the next CM of Uttarakhand where Assembly elections are scheduled early next year.

The meeting will be held under the leadership of BJP state president Madan Kaushik while Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will be the central observer.
