After detaining seven criminals, the Noida, UP police on Saturday reports to have exposed a gang that sold injection vials generally used in pneumonia treatment wrapped in remdesivir packages .
Remdesivir is an antiviral drug that is being prescribed for the treatment of COVID-19 patients currently. But due to the rising demand of the injection, back market and illegal sale has massively increased in the nation.
Many such cases have been reported in the past but the racket has never ended. As per the police statement, the accused have been identified as Musir, Salman Khan, Shahrukh Ali, Azharuddin, Abdul Rahman, Deepanshu alias Dharamvir Vishwakarma and Bunty Singh, all residents of Uttar Pradesh.
While some are illegally employed as nursing staff with hospitals in Delhi-NCR, others are working as medical representatives of pharmaceutical companies, police said. Reportedly, the suspects used their credentials to target people who are in desperate need for remdesivir injections in hospitals and at pharmacies.
The criminals sold a vial between Rs 40,000 and Rs 45,000 when it merely costs no higher than Rs 3,500 depending on the manufacturer.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ranvijay Singh affirmed, police in Gautam Buddh Nagar district have been notified and are monitoring such atrocities engaged in stockpiling and doing black marketing of resources, including medicines in great demand.
