The Bombay High Court has ruled that the Union government should be held accountable if Covid patients die due to ventilators purchased with PM Cares funds. The High Court commented on this in the wake of GMCH Hospital’s assessment that ventilators purchased with PM Cares funds were frequently damaged. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Ravinder Ghuje and Justice BU Debadwarla said the ventilators had already been repaired several times.
The court adjourned the case till June 7 after the Additional Solicitor General told the court that a team of doctors would go to Mumbai to test the performance of the ventilators. It is learned that the Center had purchased 150 ventilators with PM Cares funds and allotted them to GMCH Hospital.
