We are aware that Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft soft-landed on the South Pole of the Moon on August 23, becoming the first nation to achieve this feat. Since landing, the prestigious Moon mission has achieved two of the three objectives. This has been officially disclosed by ISRO. Sharing the information on the official page of X (Twitter), ISRO said that the third objective is internal scientific experiments, which are also nearing completion.
ISRO said that all the payloads in the Chandrayaan-3 mission are functioning normally. “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: Of the 3 mission objectives, Demonstration of a Safe and Soft Landing on the Lunar Surface is accomplished. Demonstration of Rover roving on the moon is accomplished. Conducting in-situ scientific experiments is underway. All payloads are performing normally,” the ISRO wrote on the microblogging site.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the scientists involved in this mission at the ISRO headquarters in Bangalore on Saturday.
Addressing the ISRO team, the Prime Minister decided to name the spot where the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander soft landed as ‘Shiva Shakti Point’ and the spot where the Chandrayaan-2 lander crashed on the lunar surface in 2019 as ‘Tiranga Point’. Also, Prime Minister Modi announced that August 23, the historic day when the Chandrayaan-3 lander landed on the surface of the moon, will be celebrated as ‘National Space Day’.
