Rajanna Siricilla Collector D Krishnabhaskar, then Joint Collector Yasmin Basha (now Vanaparthi District Collector), and the land acquisition officer N Srinivasa Rao have been sentenced to three months in jail for contempt of court in the Ananthagiri Reservoir land acquisition case which is part of the Kaleswaram project.
The High Court ruled that all three officers should pay Rs.10,000 under the expenses for each of the 11 petitioners. Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, who was hearing a contempt of court petition filed by V Muthareddy of Ananthagiri village in Illantakunta Mandal of Rajanna Siricilla district and 10 other farmers, recently passed judgment.
The farmers had approached the High Court alleging that land acquisition was not carried out as per the Land Acquisition Act, and the Grama Sabhas were also not held.
