Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Radhe is the first biggie to release simultaneously in theatres and on OTT through pay-per-view model.
The film will be premiering on Zee5 app on 13th May and the ticket price per stream is Rs 249. It will be simultaneously releasing in theatres as well.
This is a relatively untested model in Indian cinema and it is said that even Telugu film industry is keeping a close watch of Radhe’s digital release.
Radhe’s revenues will give a clear idea of the pay-per-view model and if it proves to be successful, we can expect a few Telugu biggies to follow a similar strategy.
Quite a few Telugu films including Tuck Jagadish, Love Story, Ek Mini Katha and others have already completed shoot and are ready for release. The makers of these films might seriously consider the option of releasing them on OTT on pay-per-view basis. The fact that there is no update on reopening of movie theatres will certainly help the cause.
Same is the case with Bollywood as well. Many A-lister films will be releasing on pay-per-view basis if Radhe posts good numbers. It needs to be said that all eyes are on Salman’s Radhe now.
