Tiktok has been one of the most popular apps in India. As per the statistics, ByteDance which owns Tiktok loses around $15 million per month due to the ban in India. One third of Tiktok’s downloads are from India.
With the ban of Tiktok, Indian app industry is growing heavily. Local made apps Roposo and Chingari which are claimed to be the Indian version of Tiktok are now trending in the app stores. With around 22 million downloads in 2 weeks, Roposo is leading the competition. Chingari got around 10 million downloads in 2 weeks.
Roposo is said to be a 200 employees company in Bangalore and the founders are planning to hire 1000 more and expand internationally in the next few years. Roposo founder Mayank Bhangadia stated that the teams in Roposo are sleeping just 5 hours in the past few days to make sure the services won’t get disturbed due to heavy download volumes.
Roposo has 50 million users by the time Tiktok was banned and in couple of days Mayank Bhangadia is expecting the app to cross 100 million users mark. So it took 6 years for this app to build 50 million users base and just 3 weeks to double it!
