The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday announced that veteran Bollywood actress Asha Parekh has been selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke award 2020.
The 79-year-old actress will be presented with the highest recognition in the field of Indian cinema at the National Film Awards ceremony to be held in New Delhi on Friday.
Asha Parekh, who is best known for movies such as Kati Patang, Dil Deke Dekho, Teesri Manzil, and Caravan, is considered one of the most influential starlets of all time in Hindi cinema. She also helmed the acclaimed TV drama Kora Kagaz in the late 1990s.
Announcing the award, Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur said, “The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to recognise and award Asha Parekh ji for her exemplary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.”
Last year, the prestigious award for 2019 was conferred on Rajinikanth.
