Indugumilli Vara Prasad, a victim of a tonsuring case in Rajahmundry went missing. Vara Prasad’s wife Kausalya had lodged a complaint with the Sitanagaram police in Rajahmundry alleging that her husband was missing.
In July 2020, Varaprasad was arrested and tortured by the police in Vedullapalli, Sitanagaram Mandal. He was arrested on a complaint by a local YCP leader and beaten up with a belt.
The victim alleged that he was later tonsured at the police station. The opposition parties in the state expressed outrage over the government.
Varaprasad, who was devastated by the tonsuring incident, wrote a letter to the President’s office. The letter stated that no one cared if injustice was done to the Dalit and that he would meet the Naxalites.
