We are aware that in 2009, Congress leader Adi Srinivas, who contested against Vemulawada MLA Chennamneni Ramesh Babu had lodged a petition challenging the Indian citizenship of the latter and approached the Union home ministry.
In his complaint, the Congress leader alleged that the TRS MLA had got Indian citizenship after presenting fake documents to contest the Assembly elections from Vemulawada. Ramesh Babu married a German woman and procured German citizenship, but, hiding that, he participated in the elections after fraudulently acquiring Indian citizenship and won.
However, the Centre last year failed to submit proper evidence and documents to the Telangana high court regarding the dual citizenship of Babu. Of late, the home ministry submitted an affidavit proving that the MLA has German citizenship. So, the HC took up the case for hearing on Thursday.
The petitioner’s advocate requested to the bench to consider this as a serious issue of how a person having German citizenship was in the Assembly for ten years. Seems like TRS legislator Ramesh Babu may not escape from the hands of the law this time.
