Recently, a petition filed by the AP government challenging the NGT directives on the Purushottampatnam project was heard in the Supreme court.
On this occasion, the AP government claimed that the Purushothapatnam project will meet the drinking water needs of Visakhapatnam.
The Supreme court has rejected the AP government’s request to quash the NGT directives to take environmental permits. The bench of Justice Nariman clarified that the NGT had issued these orders only after examining everything.
The Supreme court said that the environmental and social impacts of the Purushothapatnam project have not been studied yet.
