Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been given a major exemption by the Telangana High Court, where the HC stated that the CM doesn’t have to be personally present at every case hearing, with respect to his illegal assets case, currently going on in the CBI court.
The CBI court didn’t exempt him from being personally present at the hearings and said that he would have to be present at the cases, as they were going on way before he was even the CM of AP. After becoming the Chief Minister of AP in May 2019, Jagan filed a petition in the TS High Court, requesting exemption from a weekly appearance in the court, as it wouldn’t be possible for him to do so, with the many responsibilities that keep him occupied as he’s the CM of AP now, and with the high security that comes with him.
Given that the CBI court didn’t exempt him from appearing for the sessions even during his historical padayatra, before becoming the CM of AP, it wasn’t ready to do the same even after Jagan became the CM. With the TS High Court now exempting him from being present in person, it surely is a major relief for the AP CM. The TS High Court, however, did say that he would have to be present in person when it is highly necessary.
