Telangana government: No power tariffs or property tax hike in the current situation

Earlier in the state assembly while having a short discussion on Palle Pragati, Honourable chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao asserted that, Government do not want to keep people uninformed with regard to hike in power tariff and property taxes.

On the other hand, power tariff will not be hiked for underprivileged people belonging to Dalits and tribal sections and Tax hikes will be imposed only on those who can afford to bear the burden.

Both power tariff and property tax was not increased by the state government since the formation of Telangana State in 2014. However, in the wake of Corona pandemic, the state government has discontinued its plans to hike power tariff and property tax in cities, towns and villages.

CM KCR is likely to reschedule the last dates for tax payments in the near future. The entire nation is under lock down mode for 21 days and there’s no certainty whether the nation would extend or end it.

A meet is scheduled on March 30 for senior officials of discoms whether the aggregate revenue requirement (ARR) submission to Telangana state electricity regulatory commission (TSERC), should be extended till March 31st in the current situation. Officials are also in talks to provide doorstep current meters and would send bills based on the average of two or three months of power bill.

However, they later decided to extend the ARR date. Telangana Youth congress spokesperson SP Kranthi Kumar sent an email to CM and requested to extend the relaxation of electricity bill payments till may 31st without any penalty.

Collection of tax payments for the current fiscal from Urban local bodies and gram panchayats except GHMC has been over due.
