Telangana BJP: New Secretariat looks like a Mosque

On July 7th, the demolition work of the Secretariat bega, after the High Court cleared all the petitions against it. Ever since then, the plans of the new secretariat were passed through several times by the Chief Minister. He also released the final design to the public, following which several objections were raised.

The Telangana BJP is now objecting the design of the new Secretariat, made public by the CM, stating that the design looks more like a mosque, rather than like a Secretariat building.

The Secretariat plan was cleared by the Cabinet on Wednesday. It is designed and developed by Chennai based architects Ponni and Oscar. Telangana BJP spokesperson, K.Krishna Saagar Rao, raised an objection to the design of the structure, saying that the Chief Minister had not consulted about the design with opposition parties, and that he took the decision based solely on his and his party members’ opinion.

Krishna Saagar Rao also said that the building very much resembles Nizam era architecture, and why the CM was going back 500 years in architecture – something that is inspired from a culture of usurpers – when he could design a new secretariat inspired from modern architecture.

The demolition of the Secretariat was met with a lot of disdain and opposition from several religious groups. Asaduddin Owaisi demanded that two mosques be built in place of the old, demolished ones. Christians too said that a church should be built in the premises. A temple was also demolished along with other religious places of worship.
