The Assembly secretary has sent a notification to Telugu Desam Party MLCs, saying that their term as an MLC has come to an end. However, these MLCs are strongly arguing that their term hasn’t come to an end, and are preparing for a legal battle. They have given prior information to the Assembly Secretary and are also about to file a petition in the High Court very soon.
The Election commission said that the MLA quota MLC elections haven’t yet taken place due to the coronavirus pandemic, and in the same notification, it has been stated that the MLCs ready to retire would be retired on August 11th. This has been taken to the notice of the Assembly secretary, and it is being said that serious action will be taken if there’s no response.
This issue has also been taken to the notice of TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu, who is said to have told the members of the TDP to get ready for a legal battle, and is also said to have asked the party’s legal cell to oversee the legal issues. Usually, MLC seats are not kept empty and are filled up immediately after being vacant. The Legislative Assembly is a permanent house, and with the Election COmmission extending the retirement duration, there’s nothing that anyone can do right now until the EC makes any changes in its notification.
