Nilam Sawhney has taken charge as the new State Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh after Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar‘s term came to an end on March 31st. As soon as she assumed office, Nilam Sawhney has put into motion the procedure for the ZPTC and MPTC elections.
The Telugu Desam Party members have decided to boycott these elections, as they believe that there will be great discrepancies in these elections. They said that the municipal and local elections were greatly rigged when Nimmagadda was the SEC itself and said that the ZPTC and MPTC elections will be one-sided, now that Sawhney is the SEC. They said that they have decided to boycott the elections, to convey the message that these elections would be rigged.
On the other hand, Nilam Sawhney has conducted video conferences with CS Adityanath Das, DGP Gautham Sawang, collectors and SPs, and asked all of them to get ready for the Parishad elections. She is said to have taken the details of Coronavirus conditions in various areas all over the state. The SEC is expected to meet with the political parties of Andhra Pradesh, on Friday.
