TB Special: Time for small budget flicks to make a mark

There is a talk going on that film shoot will resume in Tamil and Telugu film industry only after September. With the world hitting a recession, no one knows how people will survive without jobs and cut in salaries. A popular theatre Satyam Cinemas has been closed for such a long time now that the entire seating has been ruined with rats eating them away. With no maintenance and cleaning, no workers, all the theatres just not in the South need renovation.

People have got so used to sitting at home that they might feel spending money on popcorn, tickets, travel is unnecessary expenditure. The buzz is There will be space between two seats now but that means the theatre will be selling the tickets for a loss. Despite sanitisers and masks the audience will not watch the film in peace. Either they make Covid a part of their lives like Jagan said and move ahead or extend home quarantine hoping that the Friday film will anyway release in a month.

A cross section of the people say entertainment industry is the worst hit. True, with so many films in production, even stars are feeling the financial pinch. They are indirectly forced to donate money for the cause when they don’t have any or have no inclination to do so. Luckily there is no hike in tax on the super rich otherwise most managers would have lost their jobs. It is high time that artistes rethink on their future. There is no guarantee there will be a complete secure career. Half the industry artistes are sure to lose their jobs if they don’t compromise on the pay cut.  There will be many options now, it will be like take it or leave it. Producers might be strict for at least a year after which they will again begin pampering them and a few technicians.

But mostly small budget films will thrive and flourish. There will be good stories, small budgets and actors too will be understanding. This will be the golden period for sure for small budget films now onwards.
