While the entire world is struggling to deal with the Corona Virus, this Chief Minister in India has shown all the world countries how to deal with a global pandemic in an effective way.

India registered its first Covid-19 positive case on January 31, 2020, in Kerala. Kerala was the leading state in the number of COVID-19 cases in the initial periods alongside Maharashtra and guess what, the same state has “flattened the curve” after nearly three months of registering the first case in a phenomenal way.

There is this role of its CM Pinaray Vijayan who first recognized the importance of the obstruction of the Virus transmission in the first place. The officials started identifying the contacts and the source hosts and then successfully curbed the transmission of the virus.

On May 2, the success of the state in containing Covid-19 was lauded by the ICMR. Kerala won appreciation for the “unparalleled” containment and testing strategies and referred to it as the “Kerala model”. Now Kerala has the less number of confirmed cases and at some point of time they haven’t had any case for a week with an astonishing 95% recovery rate.

The Communist government, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, declared alert over Covid-19 as early as January 18 which is way before than any other state in the country. The experience the government gained in tackling with the Nipah virus in 2018 helped the state government implement and coordinate effectively to check the spread of the contagion.

CM Vijayan issued strict orders to block the four international airports and started screening as many as migrants for over a month. In fact, the CM did not wait for instructions from the Centre but had been extra cautious and declared Covid-19 a state-level disaster on February 4. This shows his level of foresight, guts, and presence of mind in dealing with a complicated situation like a global pandemic.
