The Supreme court bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Lau Nageswara Rao, and Justice S Ravindra Bhatt directed the Central and state governments to look into the issue of imposing lockdown in the public interest in the wake of the corona outbreak.
The Supreme Court has ordered that buffer stocks of oxygen be kept for emergencies across the country as the patients are struggling for oxygen.
Speaking on this occasion, the Supreme Court said, “They should be maintained by the Center in collaboration with the State Governments. It ordered that the emergency stocks should be established within the next four days.
Consider the possibility of imposing a lockdown with public health care in mind. We are aware of the social and economic problems caused by lockdown, especially the difficulties faced by the poor.
Therefore, if a lockdown is imposed, precautionary measures should be taken to meet the needs of these communities.” It remains to be seen how the state and the central governments will act.
