Exclusive Interview: Sudheer Babu – A senior police officer helped me in carrying a cop role!

How the ‘V’ journey started?

Indraganti sir mentioned this idea of V in a very casual discussion at first. Several months later, again there was second discussion, but it has turned into a bound script this time and he was like “Let’s do this”.

What made you choose this film?

The script, my character and of course my director.

Were there any challenges in sharing your screen space with Nani?

Nothing of that kind I would say. We both were always comfortable around each other. We were not competing with each other, our characters were.

Did you ever doubt the director’s ability to carry this action cop drama with two stars?

It’s not a doubt, rather excitement or curiosity. Because he hasn’t done something like V before. It was interesting to think how he is going to handle this one. He has outdone our expectations.

Going by the trailer, the film is on the lines of Hollywood psycho-killer? Do you think Telugu audiences get engaged with the story?

V is not typical cop vs killer drama. It has got a soul. It has got lots of drama. I am sure people will get connected to that. The film is no alien for Telugu audiences.

We’ve heard that you are the real villain and it will be revealed during the climax. Is it true?

Why should I spoil your theory by revealing anything? There are different theories out of there on the internet. September 5 will answer everything.

Tell us about your lady love in the film.

Going by the response for the song promo, I think people are loving our chemistry. Nivetha is one of the finest talents we have. Happy to have worked with her.

Are multi- starrers your way to go now?

No. But again, depends upon the script. I did V because it was not a calculated multi-starrer. It is a good script. The script has chosen me and Nani.

Your six-pack body received many applauses and your workout videos are proof of your strong muscles. Did the director ask you to beef up the 6-pack body for V?

A – I didn’t beef up to be honest. The director said it shouldn’t look like you are having a six-pack body, until and unless the shirt is taken off. I did it that way.

Have you learned any special thing for V especially?

I met a senior police officer to get into details of body language. He helped me in carrying a police character.

For the first time, the film will be released on OTT platforms. What’s your opinion?

It’s the best possible decision we could have taken under these circumstances. OTT is a big support for the producers at the moment. I am actually happy that V is releasing in 200 countries & territories across the globe simultaneously. Such a wide release is not practical if not for OTT. Having said that, there is nothing like Cinema playing in theatres.

Did you take any suggestions from Mahesh Babu for the role or any suggestions related to OTT platform release?

If I have to answer it honestly, No I haven’t. He is always there to guide me though.

What are the things you are doing in the lockdown period? How are you keeping yourself busy?

Consuming as many films as I can. Spending a great time with my family and friends.

Recently, we’ve heard that your PR Manager has tested COVID positive and you took care of him & his family. And you even went to their home and supplied medicines, masks and other essentials. Hats off to you sir. It’s shown your caring towards your staff.

I consider him as a part of the family. So, it was my responsibility. I don’t think I have anything special here in this case. But I would still take your compliment.

What can the audience expect from V?

The “full meal” word we use is a cliché one. V has everything that you can expect from an action drama.
