When Amaravati was announced as the Capital of Andhra Pradesh under the Telugu Desam government, things looked brighter than ever for both Amaravati and Andhra Pradesh. Educational giants like SRM and VIT universities established new campuses in Amaravati, which came to be known as SRM Amaravati and VIT Amaravati.
The first batch from both these universities passed out this year, and the universities have been a grand success, with a 100% placement rate. This has been advertised through their college magazines as well. The most curious thing about this is, though, that the universities have alienated Amaravati from their names, and are now calling themselves SRM Andhra Pradesh, and VIT Andhra Pradesh. Usually, both SRM and VIT go by the names of the places they are situated at, eg: SRM Chennai, SRM Bangalore, etc. This was followed until recently, but not anymore.
Huge hoardings were also put up previously, with the name Amaravati splashed wide and clear on these boards. It is now not seen, though. It is being said that the administration of these universities has received direct threats from ministerial candidates of the YSRCP government, following which Amaravati has been removed from their names. All in all, Amaravati would have turned out to be an educational centre, had these universities gone ahead with including its name.
