In a shocking development, India has reported nearly 3.16 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest daily case count ever recorded by any country. With 3,15,925 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, the cumulative caseload in India has reached 15,924,806.
The shortage of oxygen and the faltering health system in the country resulted in 2,102 deaths in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day spike in the country since the pandemic arrival. The death toll from the deadly infection stands at 184,672. The country now has nearly 2.3 million active cases.
As per reports, the country took just 17 days to witness the rise of cases from 1 lakh on April 4 to over 3 lakh on Wednesday.
The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (4,027,827), Kerala (1,197,301), Karnataka (1,109,650), Tamil Nadu (962,935), and Andhra Pradesh (942,135).
On the other hand, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) revealed that 27,27,05,103 samples tested for Coronavirus up to 21st April 2021.
