Senior actor Rajasekhar’s film, Shekar under the direction of his wife Jeevitha has hit the screens today. Let’s analyse it.

Story:

Shekar (Rajasekhar), an alcoholic cop having sharp investigation skills, is known for uniquely solving crime cases. But why did Shekar turn alcoholic? Is there any backstory behind his sad phase? How his daughter Geetha (Shivani) and ex-wife Indhu (Athmeeya Rajan) interconnected with uneven incidents in Shekar’s life, forms the main crux of the film.

On-screen performances:

Rajasekhar looked okay in his makeover looks with grey hair and beard. Acting-wise, he gave a convincing performance as a crime investigation officer. Apart from his intense acting, he also showed his acting mettle in emotional scenes.

Young actress Shivani is seen in an extended cameo role. Though she flashes in a few scenes, the young diva did well with her acting. The same is the case with Athmeeya Rajan. Even though she appears in a couple of family scenes, the entire second half runs based on her character itself.

Other artists such as Sameer, Abhinav Gomatam among others are fine in their respective roles.

Off-screen talents:

Music by Anup Rubens is okay. Three situational songs which come at the crucial juncture of the film have a feel in them.

Sai Kumar’s voice dubbing for Rajasekhar’s role is good and brings natural texture to the film. Mallikarjuna Naragani’s photography is average for the film’s genre. Editing work looks fine. Production values for this limited budget film are decent.

Coming to the direction skills of Jeevitha Rajasekhar, though the film is an official remake of the Malayalam thriller, Joseph, Jeevitha tried to present the movie according to our Telugu nativity. Not extremely good, but she tried hard to make the movie engaging with her screenplay.

Positive Points:

  • Rajasekhar’s acting

Negative Points:

  • Slow-paced first half
  • Lacks regular commercial elements

Verdict:

In an overview, Shekar is a regular crime thriller that has some moments in the second half. If you have more extra time on your hands, you can try it for once on the big screens. In box office prospects, we have to wait and see how the audience will encourage this serious drama.
