On Friday, BJP Telangana leader, Perala Shekhar had moved the Supreme Court regarding the fact that the Telangana government is not implementing the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, introduced by the Central Government.
Following that, the Supreme Court has sent a notice to Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, questioning the reasons for the government not implementing the scheme. The court has also given the government a span of two weeks, to file a counter-affidavit, stating its reasons.
Even in the past, the Telangana government stuck to Aarogya Sri, instead of the Center’s health plan schemes, over the fact that Aarogya Sri is more beneficial to the people of the state. Telangana Chief Minister KCR had also mentioned this recently, stating that Aarogya Sri helps the people more than Ayushman Bharat could.
However, BJP Leader Shekhar stated clearly in his petition submitted to the Supreme Court that while Ayushman Bharat Yojana covers Coronavirus expenses, Aarogya Sri doesn’t. Keeping that in mind, the government will have to come up with a strong reason for not implementing Ayushman Bharat in the state, and choosing to still stick with Aarogya Sri.
Shekhar also mentioned that Ayushman Bharat also covers the expenses of several serious illnesses, whereas Aarogya Sri doesn’t. Shekhar also stated that several non-BJP ruling states are also not implementing the Center’s health scheme. It is still not clear if the SC sent notices to those states as well.
