The Supreme court today granted interim protection from arrest to Amazon Prime India head Aparna Purohit in FIRs lodged over web series Tandav. It is known the Tandav web series starring Saif Ali Khan has sparked controversy for hurting religious sentiments.
During the hearing, a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and R S Reddy noted that the protection from arrest will be subject to the petitioner cooperating with the investigation and appearing before the police as and when summoned. The bench also issued notice to the UP government on Aparna Purohit’s plea for anticipatory bail in the case.
The SC said the government’s guidelines on monitoring social platforms do not have any provision for taking relevant action against digital streaming platforms displaying improper content.
Tandav is a nine-episode political thriller starring Bollywood star actors Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub.
