Satyadev’s Thimmarusu, a remake of Kannada film, Birbal hit the big screens earlier today. Here is our review of the investigative thriller, which is directed by Sharan Koppishetty.

Story: Rama Chandra (Satya Dev), a smart and honest lawyer finds out that a teenager, who is currently on parole was initially framed for the murder of a police informer. Rama Chandra now sets out on a mission of ensuring justice to the teenager who didn’t commit any crime. Will he be able to do so? If yes, then how?

What about on-screen performances?

Satya Dev is one of the better performers in Tollywood and he is in his elements in the role of a smart lawyer. He shoulders the film with his composed performance. Priyanka Jawalkar plays a very brief role. Bramhaji comes up with a comical act and he is good. The actor who plays the wrongly framed young lad does well.

What about off-screen talents?

The director Sharan Koppishetty makes a few cosmetic changes to the script. But he overplayed the smartness card while penning the protagonist’s characterization. The protagonist is a know-it-all, which looks fabricated. The story is identical to the original. Sricharan’s background score is decent and so is the cinematography. Editing could have been better as the opening sequences lack any depth and they could have been chopped off. Production designing is neat.

What’s Hot?

  • Satya Dev’s performance
  • Twists and turns in the story
  • Well-executed Climax

What’s Not?

  • Protagonist’s over smartness
  • Illogical at times
  • Sluggish opening sequences

Verdict: Thimmarusu is a middling investigative thriller that has its own share of bright moments and also flawed sequences. The protagonist’s over smartness looks forced and fabricated, but the film possesses the quintessential suspense factor. The anticipation of what happens next is carried for most parts. The film is a mixed bag and it can be termed a one-time watch.
