Sarkaaru Noukari Review: Mediocre Take On A Taboo Subject

Sarkaaru Noukari is a Telugu-language social drama film written and directed by Sekhar Gangamoni. The film has Akash Goparaju & Bhavana Vazhapandal in lead roles while Tanikella Bharani, Madhu Latha, Sahithi Dasari, Mahaadev, Rajeshwari Mullapudi, Sai Srinivas, Sudhakar Reddy, Ramya P, Laxman Meesala, Sammeta Gandhi, Mani Chandana & others are seen playing important supporting characters. The music is composed by Sandilya Pisapati & Suresh Bobblli and the film is produced by K.Raghavendra Rao under RK Teleshow Pvt. Ltd. banner.

Story:

Gopal (Akash Goparaju) is a dedicated government servant employed in the health department who is assigned the task of raising awareness about unprotected sex and delivering condoms to village health centers and households to promote safe sex practices. He is also happily married to Satya (Bhavana Vazhapandal). His married life with her takes a turn when the villagers discover the nature of his job and Gopal is left with no choice but choose to between his wife and his job. What does he decide at the end? Needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Akash Goparaju is just about fine in his role as a government officer. He suits Gopi’s role look-wise but he still needs to improve a lot with his expressions and body language. He looked a bit underconfident, especially in the emotional/intense scenes.

Bhavana Vazhapandal is pretty decent in her wife role. She also suits her role perfectly and she is particularly good in the scenes where she goes against her husband.

Tanikella Bharani in the role of the Village’s Sarpanch did good justice but his role doesn’t uplift the film at any point.

Madhu Latha is good in her little part in the latter half and looks glamorous in her only song.

Mahadev who played Gopal’s friend is wrongly cast. A better-known actor was needed for his part.

Sahithi Dasari does well as the heroine’s friend while Rajeshwari Mullapudi, Sai Srinivas, Sudhakar Reddy, Ramya P, Laxman Meesala, Sammeta Gandhi, Mani Chandana & others are okay.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Sekhar Gangamoni is good. The central plot is based on a true incident that happened in Kolhapur in 1996 where the effect of AIDS was very high during the period. It talks about a very relevant topic and gives out a good message on safe sex practices which still a few people in the villages think is a taboo subject.

The screenplay is not up to the mark. There is a lot of scope for comedy and emotions but the writers haven’t tapped into these aspects to the fullest potential. The way the lead character fights for his particular job lacks a strong motive which is a big minus. Also, the sudden shift from the main story to another pair’s subplot and having a romantic song there in the second half obstruct the flow of the film big time.

Director Sekhar Gangamoni does a pretty underwheling job with his craft. The way he presents and narrates the film looks very outdated as it gives us a feel of watching a film made in the early 90’s.

The songs by Sandilya Pisapati are forgettable while the background score by Suresh Bobblli is good in parts.

The camera work by Sekhar Gangamoni is just ordinary and the edit by Raghavendra Varma needed to be more crisper.

The production values by RK Teleshow Pvt. Ltd. are fine.

Verdict: Sarkaaru Noukari talks about a very important taboo subject of using condoms in the villages which is good but the way it is told and presented looks very outdated and flat making it a below average affair. Can try it once it comes on OTT for the message it gives!!
