OTT Movie review: Sadak 2 – Outrageously bland

Starring Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles, Sadak 2 has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The trailer of the film is the third most disliked video on YouTube. Many netizens have been slamming the film, saying it is a product of nepotism. Let us see what the film has in store.

Story: Ravi(Sanjay Dutt) a taxi driver who is tormented by the memories of his deceased wife meets Aarya(Alia Bhatt) and Vishal(Aditya) who are facing their own set of problems. The trio then go on a life-changing journey as numerous challenges await them in the path.

How about on-screen talents?

For an actress of Alia Bhatt’s calibre, playing a distressed daughter should not be the biggest of challenges. She delivers an effortless performance and emotes particularly well in the emotional episode towards the end. Sanjay Dutt is a class act and he carries the intense role of a mentally traumatized person quite well. Aditya Roy Kapoor gets a brief role and he does what is expected of him. Jisshu Sengupta, and Makarand Deshpande play baddies and they are good in their roles.

How about off-screen performances?

Mahesh Bhatt’s story is cliched and there is nothing compelling when it comes to screenplay or the set-up. The film is based on “God business” and the plot is laced with fatherhood and human emotions. Despite an ensemble star cast, the film never really intrigues the viewers. Cinematography is decent as a dark color palette is carried all through the movie. Background score is impressive.

Verdict: Sadak 2, the sequel of 1991 blockbuster, Sadak fails to pack a punch. It is powered by the likes of Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, and Aditya Roy Kapoor but their efforts go in vain as the screenplay is outrageously bland. Not a single sequence is praiseworthy.
