Rules Ranjann is a 2023 Telugu-language comedy family drama which is written and directed by Rathinam Krishna. The film stars Kiran Abbavaram & Neha Shetty in lead roles along with Meher Chahal, Vennela Kishore, Subbaraju, Hyper Aadhi, Viva Harsha, Annu Kapoor, Ajay, Atul Parchure, Vijay Patkar, Makarand Deshpande, Nellore Sudarshan, Goparaju Ramana, Abhimanyu Singh, Nagineedu, Siddharth Sen & others in key supporting roles. The music is composed by Amrish and the film is produced by Divyang Lavania & Murali Krishnaa Vemuri under Starlight Entertainment Pvt Ltd banner.

Story:

Mano Ranjan (Kiran Abbavaram) is a software employee who lives a single life in Mumbai and he leads his life by a strict set of rules. His life takes an unexpected turn when his college sweetheart & classmate Sana (Neha Shetty), makes a re-entry into his life in Mumbai. Will Ranjan win the heart of Sana? What happens later needs to be seen in the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Kiran Abbavaram is decent in the film as Mano Ranjan. This is definitely not his best performance but he tries out a full-fledged comedy flick for the first time and is passable with his act.

Neha Shetty is fine with her performance as Sana but she gets a very limted role that has very little scope for her to showcase her acting talent. She is glamourous in the ‘Sammohanuda’ song and dances well.

Vennela Kishore succeeds in making us laugh in a few places with his funny antics and adult comedy. The ending twist with his role is hilarious.

Hyper Aadi, Viva Harsha, and Nellore Sudarshan are seen as the hero’s childhood friends and their comedy track is cliched to the core that doesn’t work as expected. Their track more or less looks like a TV serial episode.

Meher Chahal fails to impress with her performance as the second heroine who joins the plot from nowhere.

Subbaraju, Ajay, and Goparaju Ramana aren’t used to the fullest of their abilities. They are wasted in senseless roles.

Annu Kapoor, Atul Parchure, Vijay Patkar, Makarand Deshpande, Abhimanyu Singh, Nagineedu, Siddharth Sen & others are fine.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Rathinam Krishna is utterly outdated and highly predictable. There is nothing new with the plot, the comedy, and even the characterizations.

The screenplay too is very routine and poorly written. Right from start to end, there is no one particular scene that stands out. The narrative is just filled with some baseless comedy portions that never click, boring serial-type family scenes and the unengaging love track also fails to impress.

Director Rathinam Krishna completely fails with the way he presents the film. Right from the writing to the making, everything about the film gives us an outdated vibe. Even his narration is neither entertaining nor engaging.

The dialogues too are old fashioned and not up to the mark.

The cinematography by Dulip Kumar M.S is mediocre. There are many cheat shots in the film and they are easily recognisable.

The songs by Amrish never leave an impression. Except for the chart-buster song, ‘Sammohanuda’, none of the other songs work. His background score too is pretty underwhelming.

The editing could have been a lot sharper, especially in the second half towards the climax portions where the film tends to go on and on with lengthy sequences.

The production values by Starlight Entertainment Pvt Ltd are fine.

What’s Hot?

* Few Comedy Scenes
* Vennela Kishore
* Sammohanuda Song & Choreography

What’s Not?

* Baseless Script & Poor Screenplay
* Too Outdated Presentation
* Lengthy & Dragged Out Second Half
* Weak Slapstick Comedy
* Boring Narration & underwhelming Direction
* Average Performances

Verdict: Rules Ranjann is a mindless comedy that is totally outdated with its writing and presentation as well. Except for a few comedy bits of Vennela Kishore, none of the scenes work as expected. The weakest film of Kiran Abbavaram till date. Can skip it!!
