Municipal elections in Ranga Reddy district went to the next level in case of bribe for votes. As per the media reports, political parties spent lots of money this time to get the votes. A family of six voters in Ranga Reddy is said to have received Rs.78000 in one day. Few parties were said to have spent as much as Rs.5000 per vote.
Even though the election commission restricts bribing for votes, it is a known fact that political parties will spend money for votes. Some parties spend money in the form of schemes and benefits while few others directly give cash during the times of elections.
It would have been better if the political parties spent that money on developing the region when they were in power rather than illegally buying the votes bribing the people. In olden days politics is considered to be a chance to serve people and in current scenario, it is a profession or kind of a business where political parties invest upfront and reap the benefits later on.
