There were massive expectations on director SS Rajamouli’s RRR from the very beginning, and the film was expected to get a very good opening in the USA as well, considering the director’s track record in the country. However, upon release, and in the lead up to its release, RRR turned out to be much bigger than expected. RRR collected more than $2.4M for its premiere shows in the USA, crossing the collections of Baahubali 2 premieres, creating new records.
The film has now grossed over $5.3M on the first day, including premieres, which is a whole new record, making it the first-ever Indian film to achieve such a feat in the YSA. The film also grossed more than $2M on Saturday, taking its total collections to over $7M, meaning that the collections have surpassed the lifetime collections of the Telugu version of Baahubali: The Beginning, in the USA.
On the other hand, with Baahubali 2 collecting $3.2M on its first Saturday, it remains to be seen how much RRR will rake in on its first Saturday. Meanwhile, trade experts are expecting that the film would collect more than $10M in its lifetime, in the USA, and it is now to be seen what will happen in the end.
