Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), which is hosting its 44th annual general meeting (AGM) event online, has announced its JioPhone Next in collaboration with Google.

The phone, which has been jointly developed by Reliance Jio and Google,
will go on sale from September 10 in India and will run an optimised version of Android.

Reliance Industries Limited chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani said that this the cheapest smartphone in the world, not just in India in the future. The price has not yet been announced.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the phone will have support for the latest Android updates, smart camera and translation as well. It is designed for users who will upgrade to a 4G-enabled Android smartphone from 2G feature phone for the first time.

This new phone from Jio and Google could give a strong fight to firms including Xiaomi, Samsung, and Realme that are known for their affordable market segment.
