Recce Review: Passable crime drama

Noted OTT platform Zee5’s original series, Recce premiered on the streaming platform today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Set in Tadipatri backdrop, the story revolves around two political groups. Due to rivalry conflicts, a gang will be appointed to finish off the sitting municipal chairman, Varadarajulu( Aadukalam Naren). Simultaneously, the sub-plot of town sub-inspector Lenin ( Sriram) will be showcased where is will be seen investigating a murder mystery. What is the role of Chalapathi ( Siva Balaji) in the entire setup? How will all the dots regarding Varadarajulu’s murder mystery will be connected one by one, forms the crucial crux of this seven-episode show.

On screen performances:

Naren perfect fitted in the role of a local politician and did his part quite effectively. Sriram as a sincere cop brought life to a few key investigation scenes with his acting.

Siva Balaji is decent in his role as a frustrated son of a politician. His performance during a couple of key family scenes is good. Senior actor and filmmaker Thotapalli Madhu gets a meaty role in which he gave a convincing performance. Sammeta Gandhi, Uma Daanam Kumar, Krishna Kanth, Murali are impressive with their appearances and acting as a gang appointed to finish off the municipal chairman.
Other artists like Saranya, Rajashree Nair, Ester Noronha, Ramaraju, Dhanya Balakrishna, Surya Theja among others did their supporting roles in an impressive manner.

Off-screen Talents:

Background music is the major plus point for this action thriller. Sriram Maddury came out with fresh sounding that elevated the key scenes nicely. The sound design by Sai is fine.

The cinematography by Ram K Mahesh is superb and captures the rustic flavour of the series neatly. Editing by Kumar P Anil is okay but would have chopped off a few lag portions for a racy narrative.

Artwork by Karthik Ammu and Babu is visible on screen. Production design by Jhansi.Lingam and Nani is good and so is the case with the production values of the series.

Lastly, director Krishna Poluru did his part quite convincingly. While his dialogues are apt for the premises, the narrative is okay. Overall, Krishna Poluru did good but he would have come up with a crisp narrative to make things more effectively.

Positive Points:

  • Rustic setup
  • Performances

Negative Points:

  • Single-point stretched storyline
  • Last two episodes

Verdict:

In an overview, Recce web series has decent premises and good performances from the artists. Though the narrative is blended with enough action and thrills, the entire series would have been limited to five episodes for a better viewing experience.
